There’s a new Waffle House in the West End! We literally went on the first day it was officially open and had our usual, the All Star Special and coffee.

We didn’t have any Waffle House restaurants where we used to live, so getting a brand new one just a short drive from our home here in Richmond was exciting for us.
My husband regularly drives past the intersection at Church and Pump Roads where they were building it, so he kept an eye on the construction progress. (He was really excited the day he figured out it was going to be a Waffle House, LOL. I was too!)

We even stopped to take pictures when it was in progress. We had hoped to see a sign on the door with an opening date, but there wasn’t one yet.

The wait seemed interminable while we watched the new restaurant come together piece by piece. Finally one day when my husband was driving by he noticed some cars in the lot, so he stopped to see if it was open. The folks who worked there told us the first day would be Wednesday, May 29, 2024 so we marked it on the calendar, ha ha!
Of course, everything was clean and BRAND spanking new. This Waffle House has a significantly larger food prep area than most I’ve ever been to, but the seating area for customers seemed like the average size. We were there at about dinner time on Wednesday and the place was hopping. It only got busier as we sat there enjoying our food. (We didn’t rush too much, but we did try to be considerate of the folks waiting for a table and didn’t linger over our coffee.)

Our server was new but she did a great job. I did get eggs that looked sort of scrambled when I asked for fried, but I don’t know Waffle House lingo and I probably ordered wrong. The server told me “fried” means over-hard and she said that’s what I had. Either way, they were tasty. I’ll just ask for over-easy next time. (Just to be clear, the server totally offered to have the cook make me new eggs but I didn’t want them to bother. They were fine with me.)

All the other elements were tasty. The coffee was especially good, even for Waffle House coffee. Since we haven’t visited a Waffle House in months (since August), I’m not sure if having a brand new coffee pot makes a difference or if they’ve just recently changed their blend. It was really, really good and my husband and I are sort of picky about coffee. And it was nice and hot – be sure to blow on it before you sip!
The entire thing was awesome. The manager’s name was Elliot and he spent time talking with customers and being friendly. All the employees were friendly.
I hope it stays this good. It was a really fun, typical Waffle House experience. 🙂
