Virginia’s capital city of Richmond boasts an impressive array of restaurants, delis, cafes, and eateries. We’re on a quest to discover as many of them as possible.

I’m Carolyn Erickson. My husband and I moved to Richmond, Virginia in August of 2023 after living an adventurous year in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Before that we spent the previous decades raising our daughter and his two sons in the plains of Kansas. Our daughter grew up and – after helping us get settled in to a home in Richmond – went on her own adventure.

We learned quickly after arriving in RVA that it’s a foodie town. That’s after we happened upon some great places to eat. Most of our discoveries have been driven by hunger – quite literally! We had so much to do when we first came to town, chores and shopping for furniture and miscellaneous things, that we were often too busy to think about dinner. This resulted in hangry us, driving down the road looking for places to eat. That’s how we found Tay Ho, Mama Cucina, and Habanero Mexican Grill, and others.

It makes me think you could probably throw a dart in Richmond and find a good restaurant. I’m not much of a foodie, but I recognize a good thing when I’ve found it. The hubs remembers we were at Mama Cucina when I looked up and told him I had an idea for a blog. Some weeks later, we were enjoying a leisurely basket of fish and chips at Kickback Jack’s talking about how it might work, and then sometime close to my birthday at Hogshead Cafe I realized I just needed to do it and I bought the domain. This RVA restaurant website is the result. It will hopefully be a journal of the food and drink places we encounter along the way.
We now have friends in Richmond who are real foodies, and we’ll include their journal entries too, if they’ll let us. This stuff is just too good to leave it undiscovered. Tell us about your foodie finds in Richmond too. We want to hear them!
